We had joy, we had fun

fish

One of our Jack Dempsey Cichlids stopped swimming today. A sad day in the household indeed as we only had three fish total, the two Jack Dempseys and a Plecostomus.

We bought the two as a pair when we lived in Ringgold and they made the move with us. Of course we didn’t move them like most people, we paid the local pet store $50 to watch them for a week so we wouldn’t have the rush of prepping their tank while they sat in a bucket or cooler. They actually bred once while we had them here but they all died or were eaten by their parents. Maybe they shouldn’t call baby fish frys and they wouldn’t have that problem.

So now we have a rather large lonely fish.

I wonder if there is a match.com for fish?

PICT0027

I grew tired of poor pictures when we have been traveling and needed a waterproof camera. I found a nice Vivitar Vivicam 8400 at Walmart for only $89.88 or something like that. I took the above self portrait with it and can’t wait to take it snorkeling!

Facebook and twitter

facebook

Has facebook and twitter jumped the shark?

You can’t tell by the picture but the advertising board in front of this BP station in Davenport, Iowa is inviting people to follow them on facebook and twitter.

I personally am not a facebook or twitter fan and am not really too familiar with either of them, but does your corner gas station really need to social network?

That being said, my company had embarked on an aggressive facebook campaign also which currently has over 200,000 followers.

I think I just don’t understand or I’m old, or possibly some combination of the two.

IMG00597-1

I decided to stop and punch my ticket as a riverboat gambler on the Mississippi River. While I was surfing the internet on the plane I saw this casino had a 2 PM No limit holdem tourney at 2 PM. I arrived at the casino at noon which gave me plenty of time to get my player’s card and sign up. (more…)

Just to say I did it

AirTranLogo_withPlane_bluered

This post is made from close to 30,000 feet some where over North Georgia.

Seems strange that it always used to be that you had to turn off everything electronic when flying and now you surf the web and play on the internet.Tempted to play on line poker but i think I’ll wait until a bit later. The rest of the passengers may not approve of some of the language used by the unlucky.

Priceline_NegotiatorJab_800x600

I am getting an awesome Father’s Day gift this year! I am getting to pick up the kids on Sunday. I did not feel like driving 800+ miles and up to 16 hours to do it though. (more…)

Pictured above is what will be hopefully the first harvestable food from our efforts at gardening. I believe that it will at some point be sacrificed as a part of a shish kabob festival. (more…)

I have been on land too long!

HPIM2356

I think 2 months with no cruise is too long! So we booked another one.

The kids are coming down for their summer vacation and after an especially harsh Iowa winter their only request was “Take us somewhere warm”. (more…)

The Great Tomato Massacre 2010

HPIM3663

For the second time in a week, something or someone, has viciously and savagely tossed our poor defense less tomato plants to the ground.

I am not much of a gardener. In fact, I am too lazy to mow my own yard. I do enjoy low effort gardening though. It consists of a planters, like the victim in the photo above, filled with pepper and tomato plants as well as a herb kit picked up from the hardware store. We also have a few more innocent planters filled with a variety of flowers.

At this point there are no suspects, but I am on the case.

All tips that lead to this case being solved are greatly appreciated but there is no reward except maybe some small bruised under ripened tomatoes.

netflix

I think I figured out why Blockbuster and Movie Gallery have struggled over the last few years.

I just got my Netflix hooked up with my Playstation 3 to stream movies.

It is unbelievable the number of movies and TV shows you can just download and watch for the $18.99 monthly fee.  We may actually start getting our moneys worth. I am embarassed to say we have been holding 2 movies now since March 11th. We watched half of Inglourious Bastards and haven’t popped in the Hurt Locker as of yet.

As long as they deliver pizza, I will never have to leave the house again!
