The pool is in fine shape even if the owner is not. After a week of vacuuming, skimming and back washing. The pool is now cold and swim able. Now I need to spend as much time getting myself back into shape and all will be well.
And yes Walter, that is a Stella in my hand.
When I was a teenager my father used to hate all the bumper stickers on my car(s). He would always say it looks like a rolling French Whore House. How he knew that I don’t know, as I don’t think he ever went to France.
Now I look at bumper stickers with amusement. Who are you to think I care what you think about anything? I know I don’t care if your kid is an honor student or your other car is a Porsche. I know no one cares what I think, so my bumper is in its original pristine condition. That, and its a company car and it might be considered inappropriate.
The pain of moving is having to find new people and places for all your services. New grocery store, new lawn care, new hair care, new vet and also new groomer. Well I knew we waited too long to find a new groomer when my son said Molly looked like a bush. I thought she looked more like Fozzy from the Muppet Show. She’s supposed to look like a poodle. We took her for a haircut today and ta da! We have a poodle again!
Scooter did not know what to think of the radical change. I don’t think he even recognized her until he gave her the standard dog greeting of nose to butt.
I saw this sign on way to work today.
At least they remembered to take down their McCain/Palin sign unlike some of my other neighbors.
Winter caught me by surprise last year and the pool pump paid the price. Being used to the pool in Florida there was no such thing as winterizing. I knew I had to do it but the first frost of the year hit early and hard. It ended up freezing and killing the pump. I figured there was no reason to worry about it until spring.
I went down to the local pool store where I was gouged. The pumps on line were about 60% of the price they wanted. She did let me know it was the Cadillac of pumps. I didn’t ask her if that meant they were going bankrupt also. I would have rather had a Chevy but not wanting to wait for shipping and to actually have a place to return it if I had an issue, I went ahead and took the beating. I was actually pretty proud of the fact that the missus and I installed it ourselves. Of course it only involved removing 4 hose ends and reconnecting them to new pump.
I’ll show you a better picture after I get all the leaves out and the algae killed. I have to have it perfect for when the kids come this summer so I have a little time. Meanwhile, I think I got a little sunburn today skimming it.
I didn’t know swimming pool water could reach that particular hue of green.

As I have driven around the country over the last few months I have noticed a disturbing number of empty car dealerships. A definite sign of the economic times we are living in. The dealership where I bought Laila’s car in Ringgold no longer exists either.
Since I have only lived in Calhoun for a few months it doesn’t hold the same emotional attachment to me as the Indian on the Capitol Cigar Store building that let me know we were almost at my Grandma’s house in Chicago. Still I’m sure it is a remembrance of a by gone era for some.

North Georgia has been under a drought for the last few years. I’m calling it officially over with the torrential downpours we’ve had recently. Last Friday Laila called me from the bathroom closet because of a storm. I thought she was over reacting, until I got home, even though the tornado sirens had gone off where I was 45 miles away. That was until I got home and found two large trees snapped off midway in the yard. No damage other than a few shingles as the trees fell in the yard and not on house or pool.
You know after my posting last night I remembered I am more comical than political. I think I missed the point.
During the drive to the Birmingham Alabama airport I had a lot of time to think. And now as I am sitting here I have time to post. By the way what the hell is the $15 surcharge to check a bag on Delta?
This is America in 2009, so I thought we just need to start a new reality TV show. Why not everybody has one? We’ll call it Presidential Apprentice. On a weekly basis Obama can call in all sorts of heads of industry that don’t report to him. Using his superhero powers given to him by the will of the people (54% anyway) he can call them into the oval office and very Trump like he can fire them. When he gets done with all the automotive, oil and Wall street CEOS. he could use his superpowers to fire the barista at Starbucks in DC that served him a cold latte or anyone else who pisses him off. Imagine what would happen if his beloved White Sox get off to a poor start. He’ll just call Ozzie Guillen into the Oval Office and let him go. I would love to be in on that meeting as I am sure Ozzie could teach me some words I won’t learn in the upcoming Houston traffic melee.
But the funniest thing I think I read about Obama lately was his gift to the Queen of England, an ipod. What genius decided that was the perfect gift for an almost 83 year old monarch? Did they not know what her shoe size was so they get her some new roller blades?

It has been too long, so I am heading to Sugar Land to see the folks and check in before I lose my favored son status.
Its funny how much has changed in my life since I left in 1993. Two kids, two marriages, too many pets, jobs and homes to mention in a short time. I have not been back since Christmas of 2006. I did go through the whole history of homes on this blog back when I purchased the current abode. (more…)
