Sweet Home Alabama

Today was a day that reminded me how blessed I am to live in the part of the country that I do.  I had to drive over to Trenton, Georgia which took me right over a mountain. It was raining all day,  so the mountain top was under cloud cover.  Driving in the mist and seeing all the spring color was nearly magical.

It also reminded me that I needed to get back and hike Cloudland Canyon again. It’s been a few years since the kids and I have been there.  Some of the best scenery in Georgia lies within that park.

On the way back to one of my stores, thanks to the GPS service on my phone, I took a short cut back through Alabama.  It was over the same mountain but further south and offered an equally beautiful drive. I drove by Desoto state park on that leg of the jaunt and need to make it back to visit also.

So all in all I had a nice day driving though I did not accomplish much else.

Decisions, decisions

An incident today made me think about decision making. We know when we are making a big decision that will have large ramifications. It could be buying a house,  getting married or any number of other large endeavors. But how many times have we made what seemed like a very small decision at the time that ended up having huge ramifications for ourselves or others? It could even be life changing.

You hear about the stories of people who were late to work on 9/11 and their decision to dally saved them their lives. The people who missed their flight, only to have it crash.  Of course on the opposite side of the coin you always hear about the victim that was just in the wrong place at the wrong time. (more…)

Looking Good, Feeling Good!

superchas

I stopped in Metropolis, Illinois a couple of weekends ago on the way back from picking up the kids and had this picture snapped. They have a large statue of Superman, gift shop, museum and some of the cutouts like in picture. After a particularly good result at work, I sent it to my boss along with the results.  He then proceeded to send it to I believe everyone in his address book including his boss and all his peers as well as my peers. Everyone seemed to get a good laugh out of it.  I did receive a final written warning from human resources for violation of the uniform policy and unauthorized use of spandex.

When surfing the net today I came upon this story.

I complete agree with Mr. DeSantis. Why should some one be demonized for doing their job and getting paid what was the agreed upon wage.  I would understand if he was involved in the high risk ventures that put the company into their current financial situation.  I especially agree with his decision to donate bonus to charity instead of throwing money into a black hole like AIG or the US goverment.  I am sure it has been no picnic working at AIG since the initial bail out, but many hung on due to pending compensation that was promised.

I have decided one thing.  I will never work for $1 as an annual salary with the promise of a large payout at the end of the year.  Too many bad things can happen and it Mr. DeSantis’  case,  someone else stole his carrots and he got stuck holding the crappy end of the stick.
